Associate R&D Engineer

Durham, NC

HemoSonics, LLC is seeking an Associate R&D Engineer who will be responsible for assisting in the design and development of in vitro medical diagnostic devices.

Key Attributes of the Successful Candidate:

  • Effective organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively on an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to learn and understand diverse and complex systems.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following:
    • Mechanical design
    • Electrical design (analog or digital)
    • Ultrasonics
    • Pneumatic/Fluidic control
    • Temperature control
    • Signal processing techniques
  • Knowledge of the following is preferred:
    • SolidWorks or 3D modeling software (strongly preferred)
    • Developing basic MATLAB scripts or other programming languages (strongly preferred)
    • Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Electrical circuit design.
    • Injection molding.
    • FDA Design Regulations.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic ultrasound is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under direct supervision of the Manager, Engineering, work as part of an inter-disciplinary team to develop solutions to meet requirements and design specifications within one or more of the following disciplines:
    • Mechanical design
    • Electrical design (analog or digital)
    • Ultrasonics
    • Pneumatic/Fluidic control
    • Temperature control
    • Signal processing techniques
  • Completion of non-conformance and CAPA documentation.
  • Execute unit testing.
  • Support system verification and validation testing activities.
  • Suggest improvements and adaptations to methodologies, processes, products and systems.
  • Prepare basic reports and summaries, including quantitative analysis, and protocols. May be expected to make presentations.
  • Participate in Engineering meetings and present technical findings.
  • Apply basic/standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques and notify manager upon recognition of factors that may impact projects.
  • Develop solutions to problems of up to moderate scope and complexity, through the exercise of judgment within defined practices and policies for determining appropriate actions.
  • Identify potential vendors for components.
  • Participate in design reviews.
  • Work with biological and potentially infectious materials, abiding by all GMP, GLP and any other applicable safety standards/requirements.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline.

The position is based at our facility in Durham, NC and may involve travel to customer sites and meetings as needed. HemoSonics requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or meet the requirements for medical or religious exemption.
